Gauging the mood of a re-booted sector

The forthcoming UK Completely Retail Marketplace will provide a unique guide to the mood of the retail property sector following
June’s EU Referendum vote.

More than 2,000 retailers, investors, landlords, agents, food and leisure operators, plus a huge range of decision-makers from other areas of the property business, are expected to gather at Old Billingsgate Market on 27th September for the event.

The Completely Group’s Dom Millar comments: “The market has had the summer to digest the ramifications of the vote and we’re sensing that people now feel that it’s time to get into action. That was certainly the trend at our most recent Completely Retail Marketplace event in Amsterdam at the beginning of September.

“The reports we’re getting are of sustained retail occupier demand and continued high levels of activity in the food & beverage and leisure sectors.”

The London event will feature 100 fully-furnished and branded meeting areas with additional spaces around the event for delegates to hold meetings. New exhibitors for September include Greggs, B&Q, Derwent Estates, The Edinburgh Woollen Mill Group, Jamieson Mills and with a total of more than 750 occupier representatives due to attend the show as a whole.

Dom Millar comments: “There have been encouraging signs from both the retail and leisure sectors since the vote and, whilst there have been some mixed messages from the footfall levels and consumer spending, we are expecting it to be a very busy Completely Retail Marketplace”.

This September event will present the latest crop of brands to pitch their businesses from the famous Completely Retail Soapbox, which is being sponsored by the King’s Cross Coal Drop Yard shopping project.

At each show, around 20 brands get the opportunity to pitch their business to an audience of landlords, investors and property agents.

The catch is that they only have three minutes in which to do it.

Brands who will be presenting at the Soapbox sessions include:

  • Discovery Adventure Golf
  • Chiquen
  • Chit Chaat Chai
  • Deliveroo
  • Destination XL Group
  • My Muesli
  • Rock Up

Among the Soapboxers at September’s Marketplace will be Tania Rahman and Dhruv Haria, the founders of Indian street eats restaurant, Chit Chaat Chai.

The duo came together because of their mutual love for ‘Chaat’ – Indian street dishes – and their lack of availability in the UK.

They took matters into their own hands, trawled high and low for the best ingredients and tested recipes on friends and family. Word spread and news of each other’s mouth-watering Chaat brought the two together. Sell-out supper clubs, pop-ups and food markets followed to rave reviews, with their debut restaurant opening in London’s Wandsworth Town in April this year.

Dhruv comments: “Soapbox will be a great platform to showcase our exciting, innovative brand and reach out to many stakeholders in the restaurant property market who can help us find the right premises.”
